Overview
Microphlebectomy is a refined form of phlebectomy used to remove selected bulging surface veins through very small openings. It may be recommended when visible vein branches remain after the main refluxing vein has been treated, or when a specific surface vein is causing symptoms.
This treatment is designed for veins that are too raised or too large for cosmetic sclerotherapy but appropriate for tiny-opening removal.
What Microphlebectomy is used for
- Smaller bulging varicose veins
- Surface vein branches
- Tender or raised veins
- Residual branches after vein closure
- Selected recurrent surface veins
How the treatment works
The vein is marked, local anesthesia is used, and small vein segments are removed through tiny openings. Dressings and compression are usually applied.
What to expect
The procedure is done in the office. Most patients walk afterward.
Recovery and aftercare
Mild bruising, tenderness, or firmness may occur. Compression and walking are commonly recommended.
Insurance and medical necessity
Coverage depends on symptoms, ultrasound findings, prior treatment, and medical necessity criteria. Cosmetic removal of asymptomatic veins is generally not covered.
